Advice from a female

From a thread on significant others / spouses:

It's really rather simple. Gentlemen, you must pay attention to the eating and exercising habits of your girlfriend before you decide to get married. Eating and exercising habits will NEVER CHANGE. understand? NEVER. If she has weird, obsessive, or downright bad habits, they will be there for life.

--If she eats nothing but salads and diet coke, you're going to have a problem.
--If she talks about "feeling guilty" and "omg i have to run 10miles on the treadmill now!" because she ate 1 candy bar. . you're going to have a problem.
--If she exercises purely to keep weight off, you're going to have a problem.

All of the above are signs serious food issues that will manifest themselves later . .you'll be paying for therapy or you'll be listening to whining/excuses for the rest of your life. Women who have eating disorders or disordered eating in their 20s are killing their metabolism. By her 30s she will have serious problems keeping the weight off.

--If she refuses to walk 6 blocks and insists on driving. . you're going to have a problem
--If you have never gone for a walk together because she doesn't like walking. . you're going to have a problem
--If her favorite activities are TV and shopping. .you're going to have a problem.

The above are signs of laziness and/or a hatred of physical activity. Sure, she may be slim now, but that doesn't mean she's healthy. In our fat-obessessed society, we tend to assume that slim = healthy. that's NOT true. Slim people can be just as unhealty and out of shape as fat people. (and no, fat does not equal healthy either)

If she eats healthy, 3x a day, and genuinely enjoys physical activity (i.e. she runs 5k races because it's fun, or she likes to play volleyball, or she rides her bike everywhere instead of driving). . then you're going to be ok. If she does put on weight, she won't freak out if you point it out (nicely).

That's my 2cents, as a woman with many married female friends.

Kind of simplistic and alarmist, but there are some truths in it.

You are what you eat, after all.

Thoughts?

i like the way this was put across. but well, i belong to all 3 groups, dependant on mood and occasions. but i guess, shopping is a good activity. u need stamina and perserverence. very much like running or doing a sports. btw, i do sports too. which is why i am part of the 3 stated above. ;)

faith,

I found out early on that one needs good shoes for shopping. Being on one's feet for 10 to 12 hours can be hell on ill-fitting shoes :)
